Chimney Rebuilding in Ramsgate

We carry out chimney rebuilding in Ramsgate when a stack is too damaged to repair. We take it down to sound brickwork and rebuild it with new mortar, flashing, flaunching and pots.

When a Chimney Needs Rebuilding

A chimney may need rebuilding if it is leaning, has deep cracks or has lots of crumbling bricks. Stacks that move in high winds or have lost large amounts of mortar are also at risk. In these cases, a repair would only hold for a short time, so rebuilding is the safer choice.

More Information

Taking It Down to Sound Brickwork

We take the chimney down brick by brick until we reach solid brickwork that is safe to build on. The old bricks are cleaned and reused where they are in good condition. Taking the stack down carefully protects your roof and stops debris falling onto the tiles.

Matching Bricks and Finishing the Top

Where possible, we match new bricks to the original colour and texture. The top of the stack is finished with new flaunching and pots, and the flashing around the base is replaced at the same time. The rebuilt chimney looks right on the house and keeps the water out.

About us

Chimney rebuilding is a bigger job than a repair, but it is worth doing when a stack is past patching. We scaffold safely, take the chimney down to a stable course and rebuild it properly. You get a chimney that looks right, stands up straight and does not let water in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my chimney needs rebuilding in Ramsgate?

A chimney needs rebuilding if it is leaning visibly, has large sections of failed brickwork or keeps letting water in after repairs. We check the stack from the roof level and tell you honestly whether a repair is worth doing or whether rebuilding is the right answer.

Can I use the fireplace while the chimney is being rebuilt in Ramsgate?

No. The flue will be open during the rebuild, so you should not use the fireplace. Once the chimney is finished and the flashing and flaunching are in place, the fireplace can be used again, provided the flue is swept and the liner is in good order.

Does chimney rebuilding need planning permission?

Usually not, if you are rebuilding the chimney to its original size and shape. Listed buildings and conservation areas may have extra rules, so it is worth checking with the local council if your home in Ramsgate falls into those categories.
